European Broadband Award 2016

The aim of this competition is to identify and award good practices in planning, management and implementation of the High Capacity Networks in Europe, as well as to facilitate exchange of know-how among project promoters. 

The award is open to all types of projects irrespective of the size, location, or technologies, led by public entities (such as municipalities, regions and Member States administrations, communities), as well as private actors (such as network and service operators, utilities) or other project promoters that are actively involved in building up high capacity infrastructure. 

The projects will apply to and will be awarded in one of the five categories:

Innovative models of financing, business and investment.

  • Cost reduction and co-investment.
  • Socio-economic impact and affordability.
  • Openness and competition.
  • Future-proof and quality of service.

By the time the application is submitted at least 80% of the project needs to have been completed.

The deadline for submitting applications is 15 September 2016, 16:00 CET. 

The winners will be announced and awarded, by the Commissioner for Digital Economy & Society, on 14 November 2016 in Brussels at the award ceremony, a day before the event “B-DAY: Going Giga” will take place on 15 November 2016.
